Spartak Moscow will face AFC Ajax in the UEFA Europa League last 16 second leg, with the Russian club holding a 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg in Ajax.
Ajax dominated possession for long spells during the first leg but could not break down a strong defensive performance from Spartak. In the end a goal from Brazilian midfielder Alex was enough to see Spartak going into the second leg with the upper hand.
Evgeni Makeev will lead the defensive line for Spartak, while young prodigy Jano Ananidze could feature in midfield for the Russian club. Attacking midfielder Ananidze already has one Europa League goal in this campaign, and this season became the Russian Premier League’s youngest goal scorer.
