Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Match Preview
Barcelona are poised to grab 3 more points against Real Sociedad as La Liga enters match-day 2 this weekend.
The Catalans made it look so easy on match-day 1 when they destroyed Villarreal 5-0 at the Camp Nou stadium. Lionel Messi opened his goal scoring account with a brace whereas Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez netted a league debut goal each.
Real Sociedad might do better than Villarreal, but their chances of stealing points from the Catalans are extremely slim. A cautious Dani Alves couldn’t explain Barcelona’s ambitions better. The Brazilian defender was quoted as saying during a pre-match press conference on Wednesday:
“Although, in general, people think that the league titles are decided in the games against the major rivals, I’d rather think that La Liga can be won or lost at grounds such as [the Anoeta].”
Number 9 striker Agirretxe offered Real Sociedad a precious 2-1 win against Sporting de Gijon on the first match-day of La Liga. But having conceded a penalty goal, expectations are that Sociedad’s back line will be ripped apart by Barca’s attackers.
Carles Puyol is not expected to be on the pitch against Real Sociedad. The Spaniard’s return from injury has been scheduled for next week’s Champions League match against AC Milan. Gerard Pique is also likely to miss this weekend’s La Liga encounter as he didn’t take part in Thursday’s training session.

Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Match Preview
Liga leader Barcelona visits Anoeta to lock horns with a rival in great need of a victory to secure its permanence in the Primera Division. The performance of Martin Lasarte's Errealas since Joseba Llorente's injury has been extremely disappointing, obtaining only 13 out of the last 39 possible points.
Pep Guardiola might choose to give his best players an opportunity to rest before the second-leg clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Javier Mascherano grows more comfortable in the back line as the weeks go by.
Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay was in the thick of the action during Wednesday's Clasico, and could be an interesting alternative for Guardiola in the attack.
Real Sociedad looks forward to defeat Barcelona, something they've only been able to do once in the last 13 years. Lasarte's boys have a busy schedule ahead, visiting Valencia and Sevilla in the last five remaining Liga games.
